3 Best Trade Destinations For Colts' Anthony Richardson

The Indianapolis Colts and Anthony Richardson mutually agreed to seek a trade earlier this offseason, and with training camp approaching, a resolution could be near.

Richardson lost the starting job to Daniel Jones last August, then suffered an orbital bone fracture in a freak pregame accident, and the emergence of Jones has made the former fourth overall pick expendable.

He is on the final year of his rookie deal, still just 23, and possesses the elite physical tools that made him a top-five pick.

Here are the three best fits.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams have been the most frequently cited destination all offseason.

Matthew Stafford is entering his late 30s and could be nearing the end, giving Los Angeles reason to find a future option, and Richardson could sit and develop behind him in Sean McVay's offense.

Richardson has expressed a desire to be in a variation of the McVay-Shanahan-LaFleur system, and the track record of quarterbacks like Sam Darnold rejuvenating their careers in those structures is compelling.

Learning under Stafford and McVay could be exactly what Richardson needs to polish the rough edges of his game.

Minnesota Vikings

The connection between Richardson and Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is well documented, dating back to their draft process and a touching on-field moment after a 2024 game.

Minnesota drafted J.J. McCarthy, but his 2025 play was inconsistent, and the Vikings could look to add competition and insurance at the position.

Richardson would be a cost-effective option in the final year of his rookie contract, and O'Connell's reputation as a quarterback developer makes Minnesota an ideal spot for a reclamation project.

Pittsburgh Steelers

With Aaron Rodgers's future uncertain, the Steelers are likely to be in the quarterback market once again.

Pittsburgh has cycled through veterans and previously took a swing on Justin Fields, and Richardson offers a similar high-upside, dual-threat profile at a low cost.

The Steelers could bet on Richardson's ceiling, giving him a chance to develop into a potential long-term answer under center.

The challenge across all of these fits is that many of these teams have veteran backups already in place, and there may not be a perfect suitor right now, but a training-camp injury elsewhere could quickly open the ideal door for Richardson.
