Falcons & Chiefs Complete Trade

Kansas City Chiefs offensive tackle reacts during 2025 game.

The Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs completed a trade, with offensive tackle Wanya Morris heading to Atlanta along with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round selection.

The deal is a straight pick swap with Morris included. Atlanta is moving up one round in 2027 while adding a player both organizations agreed to find a new home for.

Why Both Sides Moved

Morris was buried on Kansas City's depth chart heading into 2026 with no realistic path to a starting role.

Josh Simmons is also entrenched at left tackle.

The right tackle competition features Jaylon Moore, second-year player Esa Pole, and undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson.

Morris made only one start across 12 appearances in 2025 before suffering a season-ending left knee injury in a December game at Houston.

The Chiefs spent a third-round pick on Morris in 2023 and the 6-foot-6, 307-pound tackle made 16 total starts across his three seasons, showing solid run-blocking ability but inconsistency in pass protection that ultimately cost him his roster standing.

Atlanta's need was equally clear.

Veteran right tackle Kaleb McGary retired this offseason after missing all of 2025 with injury.

Storm Norton also went on the reserve/PUP list Thursday, the same day the Morris trade was announced, which necessitated the acquisition.

The Falcons had already signed former Chiefs right tackle Jawaan Taylor to a one-year, $5 million deal in free agency, making Morris the second offensive tackle Atlanta has acquired from Kansas City this offseason.

Taylor has been absent from voluntary workouts for undisclosed reasons, adding urgency to having depth behind him.

What Morris Brings

Morris is 25 years old, won a Super Bowl ring in his rookie season with Kansas City, and has experience at both tackle positions, though the majority of his work has come on the left side.

He is a better run blocker than pass protector, and the Falcons' offense under new coordinator Tommy Rees is expected to run more plays under center with two left-handed quarterbacks in Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. competing for the starting role.
