NFL Rumors: One Team Out On Stefon Diggs
Vrabel stated that the Patriots are not exploring a Diggs reunion and that New England has no plans to pursue him heading into the 2026 season.
The statement removes one team from a landing spot conversation that has been building for many weeks.

“We’re happy with where we’re at right now… I appreciate Stefon as a person, and as a player, and for what he did for us last year. I’ll value that. Helped us win football games. Helped us get to where we got.… pic.twitter.com/H533sAPQAL
Why This Was Always Coming
The Patriots released Diggs in March when his cap hit was set to jump from $10.5 million to $26.5 million, clearing $16.8 million in cap space and ending a one-year partnership that produced 85 catches, 1,013 yards, and four touchdowns, the best statistical season by any Patriots receiver in years.
Since his release, New England has signed Romeo Doubs to a four-year deal and traded picks to acquire A.J. Brown from the Eagles, filling the receiver room with two significant additions that leave no logical roster spot for Diggs to return to.
Vrabel praised Diggs personally at his Tuesday availability, calling him a good person and a good player and expressing appreciation for what he contributed during the Super Bowl run.

The organizational decision, however, was made the moment the A.J. Brown trade went through.
The Patriots wanted a younger, longer-term solution rather than another one-year arrangement with a player who turns 33 in November.
Diggs was found not guilty of all charges stemming from his December legal situation, removing the off-field obstacle that complicated his market this spring, but it was not enough to change New England's calculus.
The Browns, Ravens, Commanders, and Chiefs remain the teams most consistently connected to him.
