NFL Rumors: Steelers Targeting Quarterback

According to Aaron Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to pursue Jameis Winston once he hits the free-agent market.

The Steelers will likely be linked to several quarterbacks once the offseason really kicks in. With Ben Roethlisberger calling it a career, they have a massive hole at the starting quarterback position. At this time, Mason Rudolph is their best option, but they would benefit from adding an upgrade.

Before sustaining a torn ACL, Winston was having a very good season with the New Orleans Saints. In seven games, he had 14 touchdowns, 1,170 total yards, and just three interceptions. He was showing signs of reaching his initial potential, but then his campaign came to an end so suddenly. As their starter, New Orleans went 5-2.

Winston could be a player worth taking a shot on. Although the severity of his current injury is certainly high, he looked very solid this past season. Furthermore, if they sign him to a short-term deal, there would not be much risk in the move at all.
