New York Jets QB Wilson Struggles Again on TNF

Quarterback Zach Wilson's tenure as the New York Jets franchise quarterback may be rapidly approaching its end. Wilson was miserable yet again last night on Thursday Night Football, netting 71 passing yards on 21 dropbacks in a 19-3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wilson threw an interception and absorbed three sacks in his second start since being benched following the Jets' Week 11 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots. The Jets' only score followed a fumble by Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence; the Jets recovered the ball on the Jaguars' 16-yard line, lost three yards on three plays, then kicked a 37-yard field goal.

Wilson was playing in relief of Mike White, who suffered a rib injury in a Week 14 20-12 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Things got bad enough last night that fourth-string quarterback Chris Streveler saw extended snaps, throwing 15 passes and running the ball nine times. Given Wilson's play over the past two weeks (two losses, 73.5 passer rating), White will likely start again when healthy.

Wilson joined the Jets as their second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has won eight of his 21 starts, throwing for 4022 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions while surrendering an alarming 67 sacks. He has likely already cost himself a clear path to the starting job in 2023 and appears on pace to go down as one of the biggest draft busts at the quarterback position in recent NFL history.
