San Francisco 49ers Defensive Line Coach to Remain With Team

The San Francisco 49ers will hold onto one of their promising young coaches for at least one more season. Per KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, defensive line coach Kris Kocurek has declined an opportunity to interview for the Houston Texans' defensive coordinator vacancy and has elected to remain with the 49ers.

Kocurek's recent boss and former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans just took over as head coach of the Texans, so the franchise presented a good fit and a tantalizing opportunity for a promotion. However, Kocurek evidently believes he has unfinished business with the 49ers. It's possible he'll inherit Ryans' recently vacated defensive coordinator position with the NFC West champions.

The 49ers defensive line has been a massive strength ever since Kocurek joined the team in his current role in 2019. The team has finished in the top five for yards allowed in each of the past four seasons, and defensive end Nick Bosa has emerged as one of the league's best young defenders and a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
