NFL Free Agency: Top 3 Destinations For All-Pro Justin Simmons

Atlanta Falcons safety Justin Simmons reacts during 2024 game.

Justin Simmons is still one of the best safeties on the market, but the 31-year-old All-Pro remains unsigned as summer camps loom.

After spending 2024 with the Atlanta Falcons on a one-year deal, Simmons is once again looking for a new home. Despite 32 career interceptions and a reputation for being an elite communicator on the back end, teams have been slow to act.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are a logical fit for Simmons thanks to defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero. Simmons thrived under Evero in Denver, including a six-interception season in 2022. Though Carolina recently added Tre’von Moehrig, Evero’s Fangio-style system could use another veteran to anchor the secondary. The Panthers may not be contenders just yet, but Simmons’ leadership could help accelerate their rebuild, and he’d be back on the East Coast, where he grew up.

Philadelphia Eagles

Few landing spots make more sense than Philadelphia. Simmons has reportedly named the Eagles as a preferred destination, and it’s easy to see why. Philly lost C.J. Gardner-Johnson this offseason, and Simmons played some of his best football under current Eagles DC Vic Fangio in Denver. With Super Bowl expectations still sky-high in Philadelphia, bringing in a savvy veteran like Simmons could provide the insurance they need in the secondary.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders may be the most underrated suitor. New pass game coordinator Joe Woods was Simmons’ first DB coach in Denver, and Pete Carroll’s defense still lacks a true star in the back end. Despite offseason additions like Jeremy Chinn, Las Vegas remains thin in the secondary. Signing Simmons would not only upgrade the roster but bring a little AFC West revenge factor into play, something Simmons admitted he wouldn’t mind if it meant winning.
