NFL Trade Rumors: WR Jauan Jennings Gives 49ers Ultimatum

Jauan Jennings is turning up the pressure on the San Francisco 49ers ahead of training camp.

49ers’ Jauan Jennings Demands Contract Extension or Trade

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 28-year-old wide receiver has requested a new contract or a trade after posting a breakout season in 2024. Jennings is entering the final year of a two-year, $15.39 million extension, set to earn $7.5 million with a $4.258 million cap hit. Though he’s not expected to hold out, Jennings is reportedly prepared to demand a trade if a deal isn’t reached before veterans report.

Coming off a career-best year with 77 catches, 975 yards, and six touchdowns, Jennings is eyeing a bigger payday, especially with Brandon Aiyuk recovering from a torn ACL and Deebo Samuel now with the Washington Commanders. Jennings leads a thin receiver group heading into Week 1 alongside second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall.

His value is elevated by his strong hands (just one drop in 2024), top-10 yards-per-route-run rate (2.51), and reputation as one of the best blocking receivers in the league.

The 49ers have been here before. Aiyuk staged a “hold-in” last summer and eventually signed a massive four-year, $120 million deal. Jennings appears to be taking a similar path, following the example of tight end Jonnu Smith, who leveraged a trade from Miami to Pittsburgh

With the team already tight on cap space after extending Brock Purdy, George Kittle, and Fred Warner, Jennings' ultimatum is now the latest roster headache for a contender trying to regroup after a rough 2024 campaign.
