Cleveland Browns Release First Quarterback In Crowded Backfield
The Cleveland Browns have cut veteran quarterback Tyler Huntley ahead of their Week 1 opener, going to a four-quarterback roster featuring Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders.
Huntley, 27, who played for the Baltimore Ravens and made a Pro Bowl appearance in 2022, was initially signed to provide depth during training camp while Pickett, Gabriel, and Sanders were recovering from injuries.

Tyler Huntley Released as Browns Trim QB Room
Huntley even led a game-winning drive in the preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams after substituting for Shedeur Sanders, but Cleveland’s roster strategy prioritized the development of their drafted talent. Pickett, sidelined with a hamstring injury, is expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The move leaves Huntley as a free agent, likely to draw interest from teams needing a veteran backup.

Browns Prioritize Rookie Development and QB Depth
With Flacco named as the starter, the competition now focuses on the backup role. Dillon Gabriel appears to have the edge over Shedeur Sanders for rookie QB positioning, which may influence the depth chart behind Flacco.
