BREAKING: Chargers Get Horrendous Injury News Ahead Of Season

Los Angeles Chargers tackle Rashawn Slater reacts during 2024 game.

The Los Angeles Chargers will be without star left tackle Rashawn Slater for the entire 2025 NFL season after he tore his left patellar tendon during Thursday’s practice.

The injury occurred during a team drill when Slater planted his foot against edge rusher Tuli Tuipulotu and collapsed to the ground. Slater was carted off visibly frustrated, slamming his helmet and fist, and will undergo season-ending surgery.

Major Blow After Record-Breaking Contract

The setback comes just 11 days after Slater signed a four-year, $114 million extension with $92 million guaranteed, the largest guarantee ever for an NFL offensive lineman. Widely regarded as one of the league’s top tackles, Slater had anchored Justin Herbert’s blindside since 2021 and played a crucial role in the Chargers’ record-low eight turnovers last season. His absence further tests a line already missing guard Mekhi Becton to injury.

Chargers Shift Protection Plan

With Slater out, rookie Joe Alt is expected to slide to left tackle, while Trey Pipkins III will likely take over at right tackle. The loss is a significant blow to Jim Harbaugh’s run-heavy offense and to a unit that entered camp projected as one of the NFL’s best tackle pairings. The Chargers now face the challenge of keeping Herbert protected as they push for playoff contention without their All-Pro anchor.
