Dallas Cowboys Sign Former 9th Overall Pick Edge Rusher

The Dallas Cowboys wasted no time shoring up their defense after trading away star pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers

Following Sunday’s 40-37 overtime win against the New York Giants, owner Jerry Jones confirmed the team is signing veteran edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney. The 32-year-old former No. 1 overall pick visited Dallas last week before finalizing a one-year deal worth up to $6 million.

Veteran Depth for Dallas Defense

Clowney brings proven production to a Cowboys front that has lacked consistency rushing the passer since Parsons’ departure. Dallas managed only one sack in its opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, though it got to Giants quarterback Russell Wilson three times on Sunday.

Over his 11-year career, Clowney has recorded 58 sacks, 409 tackles, and 15 forced fumbles. Last season with the Carolina Panthers, he posted 5.5 sacks and 46 tackles across 14 games, continuing to show he can be an impact player against both the run and pass.

Jones Confident in Defensive Rotation

Jones praised the move as a way to add “credible” depth to a young defensive line that already includes Marshawn Kneeland, Dante Fowler Jr., and Sam Williams. Clowney reunites with head coach Brian Schottenheimer, who previously worked with him during his stint with the Seattle Seahawks.
