NFL Rumors: Jaguars Reveal How They Will Use Travis Hunter

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter runs onto the field before 2025 game.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have unveiled their Week 1 depth chart, and all eyes were on rookie sensation Travis Hunter

The No. 2 overall pick out of Colorado, who became the first two-way Heisman Trophy winner in decades, is officially listed as a starting wide receiver and a backup cornerback ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

Jaguars Name Travis Hunter Starter at WR, Backup at CB

Hunter will line up opposite Brian Thomas Jr. and Dyami Brown on offense, immediately slotting in as a top target for Trevor Lawrence. On defense, he’s set to rotate behind veterans Tyson Campbell and Jourdan Lewis. It’s a move that many expected: Hunter will be a near full-time offensive weapon, with situational reps in the secondary.

The Jaguars have been careful not to overcommit him on both sides of the ball this early.

Head coach Liam Coen admitted during camp that balancing Hunter’s workload would be “a week-to-week” decision. Hunter’s preseason offered a glimpse of that balance (10 snaps on offense, 8 on defense) before he sat out with a minor injury.

It will be interesting to see just how much the team leans on his versatility in his NFL debut.
