Pittsburgh Steelers Sign 4-Year Veteran Wide Receiver

New York Giants wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins runs the ball into the endzone during 2023 game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are turning to a familiar NFL name for help at wide receiver.

Following their Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, the team has signed Isaiah Hodgins, according to Jordan Schultz. Hodgins, a former New York Giants wideout, is best remembered for his breakout stretch in 2022 when he tallied 33 receptions for 351 yards and four touchdowns after being claimed off waivers from the Buffalo Bills.

Since then, Hodgins’ production has dipped, with only 21 catches across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He most recently signed with the San Francisco 49ers on a reserve/futures deal in January but was released during final roster cuts.

Now 26, the 6-foot-3 Oregon State product brings size and experience to a Steelers receiver group still searching for consistency behind DK Metcalf.

A Needed Addition to the WR Room

Pittsburgh’s current wideout corps includes DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, and Ben Skowronek. While Metcalf has quickly developed chemistry with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the rest of the group has offered little production through two weeks.

Hodgins provides depth on the boundary and could push for snaps in the coming weeks.

For Hodgins, this marks his fourth NFL stop since being drafted in 2020. His career totals include 56 catches for 593 yards and seven touchdowns across 28 games, with his best football coming in New York.

The Steelers are hoping a change of scenery can help him recapture some of that success as they look to steady their offense.
