Indianapolis Colts Get Brutal Season-Ending Injury News
The Indianapolis Colts’ dominant 40-6 win over the Las Vegas Raiders came at a heavy cost, as rookie kicker Spencer Shrader suffered a season-ending knee injury.
The injury occurred in the second quarter when Raiders safety Tristin McCollum collided with Shrader’s right leg during an extra-point attempt. Shrader immediately grabbed his knee in pain and had to be helped off the field before being ruled out for the remainder of the game.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter later confirmed that Shrader tore multiple ligaments, ending his impressive 2025 season prematurely.

Colts Lose Stud Rookie Kicker for Season
Before the injury, Shrader was in the midst of a breakout campaign, going 13-of-14 on field goals and hitting all 14 extra points, including a game-winner against Denver.
His consistency had been a key stabilizing force for Indianapolis’ special teams, and his absence now leaves a major hole in the lineup. Punter Rigoberto Sanchez handled kickoff duties after Shrader exited, forcing the Colts to attempt two-point conversions for the rest of the game.

Head coach Shane Steichen told reporters after the win that the outlook “doesn’t look good,” and the team is already evaluating replacement options.
Among the possible candidates are veteran kickers Michael Badgley, Younghoe Koo, Dustin Hopkins, and Greg Joseph, all of whom have extensive NFL experience.
The Colts (4-1) will need to move quickly to sign a new kicker before hosting the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, as they look to maintain their strong start despite losing one of their most reliable performers.
