Jaguars Get Brutal News On Rookie Two-Way Player Travis Hunter

The Jacksonville Jaguars suffered a tough blow this week as rookie two-way sensation Travis Hunter was placed on injured reserve following a non-contact knee injury during Thursday’s practice.

Head coach Liam Coen confirmed Friday that the team is still evaluating the severity of the injury, which will sideline Hunter for at least four games. The earliest possible return would be in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans, though Coen noted, “That, I don’t know,” when asked about a potential comeback later this season.

Hunter was coming off the best performance of his young career: an eight-catch, 101-yard, one-touchdown effort against the Los Angeles Rams before the bye week. The former Heisman Trophy winner from Colorado has been a rare two-way player, logging 67% of offensive snaps and 36% on defense through seven games.

Coen called the injury “a minor setback for a major comeback,” adding that Hunter remains in good spirits and determined to return stronger.

Jaguars Adjust Offensive Plans Without Hunter

The Jaguars’ receiver room is now thin, with Brian Thomas Jr., Tim Patrick, and Dyami Brown all battling injuries of their own. Thomas has been limited by a shoulder issue and continues to lead the league in dropped passes, while Patrick (groin) and Brown (shoulder) have also been nursing ailments.

Coen said the team will likely elevate a practice squad receiver, possibly Austin Trammell, Tim Jones, or Chandler Brayboy, for Sunday’s Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Hunter’s absence derails what had been a gradual rise in his offensive role as the Jaguars looked to build around his explosive versatility. Through seven games, he’s tallied 28 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown, alongside 15 tackles and three pass breakups on defense.
