NFL Rumors: George Pickens Wants Massive Payday

George Pickens has turned his first season with the Dallas Cowboys into a breakout run, quickly becoming one of the NFL’s most explosive receivers and a clear candidate for a massive new contract.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Pickens is expected to pursue a “massive payday,” one that should surpass recent deals signed by Calvin Ridley and Chris Godwin.

With top receivers now earning over 30 million per year, and Ja’Marr Chase setting the bar above 40 million, Pickens is entering negotiations in a powerful position.

Cowboys Considering Franchise Tag Option

Insiders believe the Cowboys could use the franchise tag to keep Pickens for 2026, projected at roughly 28.5 million dollars. The tag would give Dallas negotiating flexibility while avoiding a huge multi-year cap hit immediately, especially with major money already tied to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also called the tag the “most likely” outcome, noting Pickens would still be just 25 when eligible for another long-term deal.

Pickens Wants to Stay in Dallas

Pickens has repeatedly said he would “love” to remain with the Cowboys, and his performance has backed up that stance, as he is ranked near the top of the league in receiving yards and touchdowns while thriving in Brian Schottenheimer’s offense.

He has also acknowledged past maturity issues in Pittsburgh, saying he has grown since arriving in Dallas. So far, there has been no off-field drama, only production.

The wildcard is Pickens’ agent, David Mulugheta, whose recent battle with Jerry Jones over Micah Parsons created tension.

Still, both sides are said to have moved on, and Jones publicly stated the team has the resources to keep Pickens long-term. Whether it’s a mega extension or a one-year tag, the Cowboys know letting him walk is not an option, and the payday is coming either way.
