Cowboys Make Major Trade With Packers

The Dallas Cowboys have made a major move to strengthen their defense, acquiring pass rusher Rashan Gary from the Green Bay Packers in a trade that sent a 2027 fourth-round pick to Green Bay.

Gary arrives in Dallas with a strong track record as a disruptive pass rusher.

The former No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft recorded 46.5 career sacks across 106 games with the Packers and has posted at least 7.5 sacks in four different seasons

At 6-foot-5 and 277 pounds, Gary brings both size and speed off the edge, traits the Cowboys have been actively searching for as they rebuild their pass rush.

Cowboys Add Proven Pass Rusher Rashan Gary

Despite a quiet finish to the 2025 season, Gary still flashed elite ability early in the year with 7.5 sacks in the first seven games

His production cooled afterward, but he remained an important part of Green Bay’s rotation, appearing in all 17 games while playing 58 percent of defensive snaps.

Gary’s best season came in 2023, when he recorded 9 sacks and earned his first Pro Bowl selection, which helped him land a four-year, $96 million contract extension

Even with the inconsistent stretch last year, the Cowboys clearly believe the 27-year-old still has the upside to return to top form in a new defensive system.

Packers Move Gary as Cowboys Rebuild Pass Rush

The Packers have continued tweaking their defensive core in recent seasons and were reportedly open to moving Gary after his production dipped in the second half of 2025.

Dallas, meanwhile, has been aggressively searching for help on the edge. After missing out on several high-profile pass rushers earlier in the offseason, the Cowboys pivoted quickly and landed Gary for a relatively modest price.

The move gives Dallas another proven defender capable of creating pressure and potentially reigniting a pass rush that struggled for consistency last season.

With free agency underway and the Cowboys still holding two first-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, this trade could be only the beginning of a larger defensive overhaul in Dallas.
