Trevon Diggs Makes Stunning Statement About NFL Future
The free agent cornerback said this week that he wants to play in the NFL for at least another 13 years.
The reason is his nine-year-old son, Aaiden.
Diggs wants to still be in the league when his son makes it there, which would make him 40 years old by the time that dream could realistically come true.
The Career He Is Working to Rebuild
Diggs, 27, enters the 2026 offseason as a free agent after one of the more turbulent final chapters of any recent Cowboys tenure.
He was released by Dallas on December 30, claimed by the Green Bay Packers, appeared in two games, and was released again in January.
He has not played a full 17-game season since 2022, and has appeared in just 22 games since signing his five-year, $97 million extension with Dallas in 2023 due to a torn ACL, groin issues, a knee surgery, and a concussion that sent him to injured reserve.

Trevon plans to play with his 9-year-old son, Aaiden, when he gets to the league. Diggs would be 40 years old.
The gap between his floor and his ceiling is hard to evaluate precisely because the floor has largely been defined by injuries more than his performance.
When Diggs has been healthy and on the field, the production has been good.
In 2021, he led the NFL with 11 interceptions, tied a Cowboys franchise record, and became the first Dallas corner to earn first-team All-Pro honors since Deion Sanders in 1999.
He is the only player in the league with 20-plus interceptions and 60-plus passes defensed since 2020 combined.
That player is still in there somewhere.
The question every interested team is trying to answer is whether three years of accumulated knee and lower body damage have permanently changed what Diggs can give them.
Why the Statement Matters Beyond the Joke
At face value, playing until 40 is an extraordinary goal for any cornerback.
The position is one of the most physically demanding in football, with elite corner careers typically peaking in the mid-to-late twenties and declining sharply thereafter.

Tom Brady played quarterback until 45 and is considered an outlier of historic proportions.
An elite corner playing at a high level at 40 would be unprecedented.
