Packers, Bears, & Lions Linked To 3-Time Pro Bowler
Per Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom, citing league sources, several teams are monitoring the veteran edge rusher, with the expectation that he signs somewhere during training camp, as has been his pattern throughout his career.
The three teams that make the most sense all share a division.
"Every team in the NFC North is lacking a defensive player in the mould of Clowney," La Canfora wrote, naming the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, and Chicago Bears as the most logical fits.
The Packers Lead the Pack
One league executive told La Canfora he has a hunch that Clowney ends up with the Packers, who need early-season pass-rushing help with Micah Parsons recovering from ACL surgery.
Parsons is expected to miss upwards of half the season returning from the procedure, leaving Green Bay's depth behind him consisting of Lukas Van Ness, 2025 Day 3 picks Barryn Sorrell and Collin Oliver, and Brenton Cox Jr.

Clowney's track record makes him an ideal bridge.
"Over the last three seasons, Clowney has had a top pressure rate among all NFL edge defenders age 30 or over, nearly 16 percent, and he has always been a strong run defender with long arms and core strength," La Canfora wrote.
There is also a roster-building incentive for Green Bay to wait, as signing Clowney after the early window protects the compensatory picks the Packers are slated to receive in 2027.
The Bears and Lions Both Fit
La Canfora noted there is buzz about the Bears being a fit, with Chicago having spent all three of its Day 2 draft picks on offense and leaving the pass rush thin behind Montez Sweat.
Market projections estimate Clowney's value at around a one-year, $5.7 million deal, a manageable number for a Bears team with a clear need.
Is Jadeveon Clowney best Free Agent EDGE Rusher #Patriots could add?

“I think Jadeveon Clowney might be their best-case scenario with the familiarity with the fact that of all these guys, he's played a lot of games and actually had success most recently.” @tkyles39 pic.twitter.com/H4g2l01WUn
The Lions make sense as well, with The Athletic's Matt Bowen pointing to Clowney's ability to win late in downs as an ideal fit for defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard's scheme alongside Aidan Hutchinson.
The complication for Detroit is financial, as some analysts have questioned whether the Lions can afford to add him.
The Player
Clowney, 33, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Texans in 2014 and a three-time Pro Bowler.
In 2025, he appeared in 13 games for the Cowboys and recorded 41 tackles, 8.5 sacks, a forced fumble, two recoveries, and four passes defended, with 6.5 of those sacks coming in his final five games.
He has 66.5 sacks across 12 NFL seasons and remains, in the words of The Athletic's Daniel Popper, a viable plug-and-play starter on the edge for any defense looking for a one-year rental.
Clowney is in no hurry to sign, per sources, and at this stage of his career, a full training camp is not a prerequisite for him.
"It wouldn't be a surprise at all at this stage for him to land with a playoff team," La Canfora added.
The team that lands him will get a veteran who can still rush the passer and set the edge, and the early money points toward Green Bay.
