NFL Rumors: Vikings Exploring Trade For Wide Receiver

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce runs with the ball during 2024 game.

The Minnesota Vikings are exploring the trade market for wide receivers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero

With star receiver Justin Jefferson sidelined by a hamstring injury during training camp and Jordan Addison set to miss the first three games of the season due to suspension, Minnesota’s depth at the position is stretched thin. Jefferson is now practicing and expected to play Week 1, but Addison’s absence until Sept. 28 against the Pittsburgh Steelers leaves a significant gap in the passing game.

Potential Trade Targets for the Vikings
Several veteran receivers are now on Minnesota’s radar. Indianapolis Colts wideout Alec Pierce has emerged as a potential target, entering a contract year with multiple young receivers behind him, including Michael Pittman Jr. and Josh Downs.

Pierce has steadily contributed in his first three NFL seasons, posting 824 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2024 despite quarterback instability in Indianapolis. Other possibilities include former Vikings Adam Thielen, who could reunite in a complementary role, San Francisco 49ers’ Jauan Jennings, or New York Giants and Patriots’ receivers who could be cut or moved before roster deadlines.

While the Vikings have $26 million in cap space, the team is likely seeking a veteran who can slot in immediately and complement Jefferson once Addison returns.

Next Steps as Roster Deadlines Loom
Minnesota must finalize its 53-man roster by 4 p.m. ET on Aug. 26. The Vikings’ final preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Friday will be a final evaluation for roster decisions.

Even if a top-tier option isn’t available, the Vikings may pick from veterans cleared after roster cuts or explore free-agent additions.
