NFL Rumors: 49ers Get Brutal Update On Quarterback Brock Purdy
The San Francisco 49ers will be without quarterback Brock Purdy when they face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Purdy, dealing with a shoulder issue and a turf toe variant, has been ruled out and could miss multiple weeks. Purdy led San Francisco to a Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks, throwing for 277 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions before aggravating the injuries.

With Purdy sidelined, veteran Mac Jones will make his first start with San Francisco. Jones, who signed a two-year deal this offseason, has taken all first-team reps in practice and now gets a chance to reset his career under Shanahan’s system.
The 2021 first-round pick and former New England Patriots Pro Bowler spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, starting eight games after Trevor Lawrence’s injury.
San Francisco Faces More Injury Concerns
Purdy isn’t the only key absence. Tight end George Kittle was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week, while wide receiver Jauan Jennings (shoulder) and left tackle Trent Williams (knee) remain questionable.
The 49ers plan to elevate practice squad quarterback Adrian Martinez to serve as Jones’ backup against the Saints.

The uncertainty around Purdy’s recovery timeline means Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars is the earliest possible return, though the team could hold him out longer given the short turnaround before Week 5’s Thursday night matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
For now, Jones has the spotlight as San Francisco looks to stay competitive despite a bruised lineup.
