NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Host Former 1st Overall Pick

Carolina Panthers linebacker Jadeveon Clowney during 2024 game.

The Dallas Cowboys are looking at veteran reinforcements for their defensive front, bringing in Jadeveon Clowney for a visit at the Star in Frisco.

The 32-year-old, a three-time Pro Bowler and former No. 1 overall pick, spent 2024 with the Carolina Panthers, recording 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 11 tackles for loss across 14 starts.

Filling the Parsons Void

Dallas traded Micah Parsons to Green Bay last month, leaving Sam Williams, Dante Fowler Jr., Marshawn Kneeland, Donovan Ezeiruaku, and James Houston to handle edge duties.

While Kneeland logged the lone sack in the opener against Philadelphia, the group remains unproven. Clowney, known for both his run-stopping and disruptive pass-rush presence, could offer immediate veteran stability to balance the youth-heavy rotation.

Familiarity and Fit

Clowney has suited up for six teams across his 11-year career, including Houston, Seattle, Tennessee, Cleveland, Baltimore, and Carolina. His best sack season came in 2023 with Baltimore, where he tied a career high at 9.5.

With head coach Brian Schottenheimer having crossed paths with Clowney during his Seattle stint, there’s already a layer of familiarity. While no deal has been reached yet, Dallas is clearly weighing whether Clowney’s physical edge play could help them weather the season while their young linemen develop.
