NFL Rumors: 49ers Making Trade Calls For One Position

San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan reads plays during 2025 game.

The San Francisco 49ers are officially in the market for defensive line help.

After losing All-Pro pass rusher Nick Bosa to a torn ACL, general manager John Lynch confirmed during an interview with KNBR 680 that the team has been “having a lot of good and productive conversations” regarding a potential trade before the November 4 deadline.

Despite not revealing specific names, Lynch made it clear the front office won’t hesitate to make a move if the right deal presents itself.

49ers weighing options after Nick Bosa injury

With Bosa sidelined, San Francisco’s once-dominant pass rush has struggled to generate consistent pressure, forcing the defense to rely heavily on blitz packages.

Lynch admitted there’s no true one-for-one replacement for Bosa, but emphasized the goal of improving the defensive front as a unit. “You’re not going to find a player that’s going to replace Nick Bosa,” he said. “But can you find someone that makes the group collectively better? That’s what we’re looking for.”

The 49ers currently hold a 4-1 record, but injuries to key players like Yetur Gross-Matos have increased the urgency to act. With nearly $24 million in cap space, the team has financial flexibility to pursue a short-term rental or depth piece as they continue their playoff push.

Trade market developing slowly across the NFL

While San Francisco is open for business, Lynch noted that few teams have committed to selling just yet.

The Baltimore Ravens recently traded Odafe Oweh to the Los Angeles Chargers, hinting that the trade market could soon heat up. Potential targets include Cincinnati Bengals star Trey Hendrickson and Miami Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, though both remain on teams still fighting for playoff contention.

For now, the 49ers’ front office remains patient but active. As Lynch put it, “If we find a way to make our football team better and it aligns, then we will not be shy about pulling the trigger.”
