Philadelphia Eagles & New York Jets Complete Trade

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver John Metchie III celebrates during 2025 game.

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded John Metchie III to the New York Jets for cornerback Michael Carter II.

Philadelphia also receives a 2027 seventh-rounder while sending a 2027 sixth-rounder. Carter, one of the league’s steadier nickel defenders since 2021, shores up Vic Fangio’s slot after Adoree’ Jackson’s concussion and uneven start, while Metchie brings speed and separation ability to a Jets receiver room thinned by injuries.

Eagles trade John Metchie III and swap 2027 picks

Carter has appeared in five games this season and returned from a concussion last week. To facilitate the move from the 1–7 Jets to the 6–2 reigning champions, he agreed to remove the $5 million injury guarantee for 2026 from his deal.

The Eagles gain a proven slot who can free up rookie corners on the outside and stabilize sub-packages down the stretch.

How Michael Carter II fits Eagles, and Metchie in Jets

For New York, Metchie has a pathway to snaps as Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds work back from injuries. He can operate underneath as a quick-game outlet and vertically off play action, complementing Allen Lazard and Tyler Johnson.

The Jets also pick up the slight edge in the 2027 pick swap, a sensible sweetener for moving an experienced nickel from a position of depth.
