Seahawks Sign Super Bowl-Winning Running Back

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers runs with the ball during 2025 game.

The Seattle Seahawks have reshaped parts of their roster ahead of their Week 13 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings, headlined by signing running back Cam Akers to the 53-man roster and bringing veteran safety Quandre Diggs back on the practice squad.

Akers, 26, arrives as RB depth with George Holani dealing with a hamstring injury and Kenneth Walker III still managing a glute issue, while Zach Charbonnet continues in his regular role.

Because Akers spent multiple seasons in Sean McVay’s system with the Los Angeles Rams and recently with Minnesota, Seattle’s staff expects him to pick up the scheme quickly and contribute as early as Sunday.

Akers is a familiar name around the NFC West. A former second-round pick of the Rams, he’s had stretches of high production, most notably 625 rushing yards as a rookie in 2020 and 786 yards with seven touchdowns in 2022, plus key playoff work during L.A.’s Super Bowl run.

Injuries, including two Achilles tears, have derailed what once looked like a star trajectory, but he still offers physical, downhill running and some pass-game value (52 career receptions for 388 yards and four scores).
