NFL Rumors: Surprising News Revealed On Aaron Rodgers & Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers throws the ball during 2025 game.

Aaron Rodgers may not be ready to walk away just yet.

Despite previously signaling that the 2025 season could be his last, momentum is quietly building toward a potential return with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2026.

Multiple league insiders have reported that there is genuine mutual interest between Rodgers and the Steelers, setting the stage for what could be another short-term partnership if the veteran quarterback decides to keep playing.

Why the Steelers Want Aaron Rodgers Back

Rodgers’ lone season in Pittsburgh went better than many expected. At 42 years old, he guided the Steelers to a 10–7 record and their first AFC North title since 2020, throwing for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions while starting nearly every game.

His steady presence helped stabilize an offense that had cycled through options since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, and his relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin has been widely described as a major reason the marriage worked.

Pittsburgh sees value in keeping that continuity while using the draft and offseason to strengthen the offensive line and receiving group.

Rodgers’ Decision Still Looms

Rodgers has made it clear that retirement remains on the table, but he has also acknowledged that he would have “one or two” options if he chooses to play another season.

After a turbulent exit from New York, Pittsburgh has given him a competitive environment, meaningful late-season football, and a clear role. With Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard already under contract, the Steelers are not desperate, but bringing Rodgers back would provide a high floor and keep their playoff window open for at least one more year.

Pittsburgh was eliminated by the Houston Texans on Monday night with a 30-6 defeat, and Rodgers did not have a great game against Houston's ferocious defense. He threw 146 yards, no touchdowns and an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

He was also sacked early in the 4th quarter and fumbled the ball, which led to a Texans' defensive touchdown.
