NFL Rumors: 49ers to Try & Unite the Bosa Brothers

Buffalo Bills

San Francisco 49ers fans are already dreaming up an offseason swing that would instantly juice the defense: bring in Joey Bosa and finally unite the Bosa brothers on the same NFL roster.

With San Francisco searching for more heat off the edge and Joey headed for free agency after a one-year stop in Buffalo, the dots are easy to connect, and a few predictions have started doing exactly that.

Why the 49ers would seriously consider Joey Bosa

The simplest case is the most obvious one.

The 49ers have leaned hard on Nick Bosa as their one true game wrecker up front, and even with young talent around him, the pass rush has been too inconsistent and too thin.

The San Francisco Chronicle has pointed to the defensive line turnover and depth concerns as a real issue around the roster, and that makes a veteran specialist like Joey an easy fit if the price is reasonable.

This past season, Bosa recorded 29 total tackles, five sacks, and five forced fumbles across 15 games played.

What Joey Bosa would actually bring in 2026

Joey is not the every-down bulldozer he was at his peak, but the role San Francisco would be buying is clear: burst off the edge, win a few key third downs, and keep the rotation dangerous when games tighten up.

He just played on a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, and even with the injuries that have followed him in recent seasons, he still posted five sacks in 2024 while also flashing pressure and impact snaps.

If Joey is open to a ring-chasing discount to play with Nick, this kind of signing could change the tone of the whole front.

Over his 10-year career, Bosa has recorded 372 total tackles, 77 sacks, and 22 forced fumbles across 122 games played.
