NFL Rumors: One Team Linked to Alvin Kamara Trade

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara runs with the ball during 2025 game.

The Denver Broncos had emerged as a legitimate trade destination for Alvin Kamara over the last several weeks.

Sean Payton coached Kamara for years in New Orleans. Kamara had his best football under Payton. The Broncos wanted more backfield depth to support Bo Nix. And after the Saints signed Travis Etienne, making Kamara's role in New Orleans suddenly murky, the pieces seemed to be moving into place.

Then Payton's former player was asked directly at the NFL Annual Meeting whether he expects Kamara to be with the team this season, and he said "well, yeah."

Why the Broncos-Kamara Rumor Made Sense in the First Place

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that teams around the league were "tracking and wondering" about Kamara's availability after Etienne's arrival, and Denver was specifically named as a possible fit in multiple reports.

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton proposed a trade sending Kamara to Denver for a late-round pick. CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo laid out the case in detail, noting that Payton's familiarity with exactly how to deploy Kamara's skill set made the fit almost too obvious to ignore.

Kamara himself has said he would rather retire than play somewhere he doesn't want to be, but if there's one coach who could change his mind about leaving New Orleans, it's Payton.

The Broncos also had real motivation. J.K. Dobbins' foot injury last season landed him on injured reserve and raised legitimate questions about his durability.

RJ Harvey is a priority piece but not yet proven as an every-down back. Kamara, even at 30 heading toward 31, brings pass-catching ability and a veteran presence that neither Dobbins nor Harvey can replicate, and his comfort level in Payton's offense would eliminate the usual adjustment period entirely.

Keep watching this one until training camp.
