2 Teams Emerging as Frontrunners for Free Agent Bobby Wagner
The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Rams are the clubs being linked most often to Wagner right now.
He turns 36 in June and is planning to play in 2026. Wagner is coming off another highly productive season with the Washington Commanders, posting 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions in 2025.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are an easy team to connect here because they still need help at linebacker, and Wagner would give them an instant answer without forcing a panic move in the draft.
Multiple reports have tied Dallas to Wagner because of the club’s lack of proven linebacker depth and need for some more defensive improvement.

Even at 35, he remained one of the more reliable off-ball linebackers in football, and his 2025 numbers suggest he can absolutely still stabilize the middle of a defense while adding leadership to a room that needs it.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams might be the better fit of the two, mostly because there is already history there.
Wagner played for Los Angeles in 2022 and earned second-team All-Pro honors after finishing with 140 tackles and a career-high six sacks, so this would not be some awkward late-career experiment.
The Rams are also a win-now club again, and their linebacker room is one of the thinner spots on their defense.
We’re talking about Bobby Wagner as a depth piece, not a full-time starter.

He still finished 2nd among ILBs in sacks (5) and 8th in total pressures (20), but coverage is the weak spot allowing a 107.2 passer rating. Not prime Wagner anymore, but he can still make an impact in… https://t.co/ATJBVLGruH
Add in Wagner’s familiarity with the organization and the fact that Los Angeles has been named by multiple reports as his best remaining fit, and it could come together fast.
At this point, it does not look like Washington is the most likely ending for Wagner anymore, even if the door has not been slammed shut.
