49ers Work Out A Number Of Quarterbacks Today

The San Francisco 49ers worst nightmare came true on the weekend, as they lost starting Quarterback Trey Lance for the season with a leg injury, and while they've got the insurance of Jimmy Garoppolo as their backup, they still severely lack depth beyond No. 10.

Today, they looked to rectify that situation, as they worked out a number of veteran QB's, including Kurt Benkert, Kevin Hogan, Mike Glennon and AJ McCarron, and with such a desire to go deep in the playoffs in 2022, it's hard to see them not looking to add a genuine backup QB with NFL experience. The hope is that now Garoppolo can be their starting QB for the rest of the year and stay healthy, but in the scenario that he can't remain healthy, a good, solid backup will help.

Sure, none of those names above have success at the NFL level, but with the likes of Gardner Minshew, Taylor Heineicke and others out there that could potentially be had via trade, the 49ers have options. After all these workouts, the 49ers signed Benkert to their practice squad, but in the event that another injury goes down, expect to see San Francisco leave no stone unturned in their quest for a Super Bowl.
