New York Jets Release Veteran Wide Receiver

New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard runs with the ball during 2025 game.

The New York Jets officially closed the book on the Allen Lazard experiment Tuesday, releasing the veteran wideout after his role vanished in a brutal 3 and 11 season.

Lazard reportedly asked for his release so he can try to latch onto a contender down the stretch, and with the Jets fully in evaluation mode, they didn’t hesitate to cut the cord.

Allen Lazard release details with the New York Jets

Lazard arrived in 2023 on a four year, $44 million deal that was widely viewed as part of the Aaron Rodgers pitch, after the two built real chemistry with the Green Bay Packers

It never translated the way the Jets hoped, and even after taking a big pay cut to stick around, Lazard still couldn’t carve out a weekly role.

He was a healthy scratch four times, played only about 250 snaps this season, and finished 2025 with 10 catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.

What’s next for Allen Lazard after the Jets move

The Jets want to feed snaps to younger receivers and find out who belongs in 2026, especially with Garrett Wilson missing time and the quarterback situation still in flux.

For Lazard, the pitch to his next team is pretty simple: he’s a big body with experience, he blocks, and he’s been in meaningful games before.

The money and the expectations in New York didn’t match the production, but a late season pickup role on a playoff roster is exactly the kind of path he’s chasing now.
