NFL Rumors: Eagles & Vikings Nearing Trade

Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard celebrates during 2025 game.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not just a team waiting to trade A.J. Brown in June.

They are also looking to add.

Both Adam Schefter of ESPN and Zach Berman of The Athletic linked the Eagles to Minnesota Vikings outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard this week, with Schefter reporting that Philadelphia has checked in on the 28-year-old pass rusher at various points this offseason and that Roseman is "plotting to make a deal on draft weekend."

"One possibility is adding Vikings linebacker Jonathan Greenard, whom the Eagles have checked in on at various points this offseason, per sources," Schefter wrote. "Greenard had 12 sacks in 2024, but he managed only three last season over 12 games, despite a solid 23.3 percent pass rush win rate. The Vikings have been adamant about getting a premium Day 2 pick for Greenard."

Philadelphia holds picks at 54, 68, and 98 on Day 2, giving Roseman real currency to work with if he wants to pull this off.

Why Greenard Makes Sense for Philadelphia

The Eagles lost Jaelan Phillips and need pass rush depth behind their starting group.

Greenard is a proven commodity when healthy.

He combined for 24.5 sacks across 2023 and 2024 with the Houston Texans and Vikings before an injury-shortened 2025 season in which he played 12 games and recorded three sacks with 10 tackles for loss.

He is under contract for two more years on a four-year, $76 million deal, which means any team acquiring him does not immediately face the pressure of a contract extension the same way they would with a player in a walk year.

Berman noted that the comparison to the 2022 draft is not accidental.

That was the weekend Roseman acquired A.J. Brown from the Titans by watching how draft boards shifted and making a move after Tennessee added a receiver.

He pulled a similar maneuver in 2023, picking up D'Andre Swift from the Lions after Detroit selected Jahmyr Gibbs.

This is how Roseman operates during draft weekend, and Greenard is exactly the kind of veteran addition he targets when the opportunity presents itself.

The Athletic's Alec Lewis noted earlier this offseason that while Philadelphia has edge rushers in Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, and Arnold Ebiketie, none of them possesses Greenard's game-changing pass rush potential.

The Complication

Minnesota is not trying to move Greenard, however.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Vikings are "really trying" to keep him, and their asking price has been consistently described as a premium Day 2 selection.

Discussions between the two sides have reportedly lost some steam in recent days, though the expectation is that conversations could heat back up as the draft progresses and teams' depth charts shift.

The Vikings also have Andrew Van Ginkel and 2024 first-rounder Dallas Turner at edge, which gives them some roster flexibility if the right offer comes in.
