New York Jets Sign 6-Year Veteran Wide Receiver

The New York Jets have agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick, adding a big-bodied target to a receiver room that already includes Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell, and first-round rookie Omar Cooper Jr.

The connection between Patrick and the Jets organization runs through two of the most important people in the building.

GM Darren Mougey was a scout for the Denver Broncos when Patrick signed as an undrafted free agent from Utah in 2017, making him one of the earliest believers in a player who needed years of development before becoming a viable starter.

Head coach Aaron Glenn was the Lions' defensive coordinator in 2024, the same season Patrick caught 33 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns in Detroit.

The Career That Brought Him Here

Patrick spent six seasons with the Broncos, producing 143 catches for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns in the four years he was actually able to play, with a torn ACL in 2022 and a torn Achilles in 2023 robbing him of two full seasons in his prime.

He joined Detroit in 2024 and gave the Lions a reliable third receiver before moving to Jacksonville last season, where he caught 15 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns in a limited role.

At 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, Patrick brings a physical dimension to the Jets receiver room that none of their current options provide.

He gives Geno Smith a legitimate red zone target and a veteran presence to help development among the younger receivers surrounding him in the rotation.

The Jets enter 2026 with one of the most interesting offensive makeovers in the AFC, having hired Frank Reich as offensive coordinator, extended Breece Hall, drafted Kenyon Sadiq and Cooper Jr., and now added Patrick alongside those pieces.
