NFL Rumors: Miami Dolphins Tight End Likely To Depart As Free Agent

He didn't work out too well in Mike McDaniel's offense.

As a result, tight end Mike Gesicki is likely to part ways with the Miami Dolphins as a free agent this offseason.

Gesicki recorded 32 receptions for 362 yards and five touchdowns on 32 targets over 17 games this past season. He posted his lowest stats in receptions, targets and yards since his rookie season in 2018.

Dolphins' general manager Chris Grier said "he has earned the right to be a free agent" after playing a year on the franchise tag.

There were a lot of question marks entering the season on what kind of role Gesicki would have in McDaniel's offense and, despite continued reports that he was going to get more involved, he posted disappointing numbers.

The twenty-seven-year-old remains one of the most athletic tight ends in the game, so there will likely be plenty of opportunities out there for Gesicki if he wants them.
